Have you ever made a mistake while interpreting on the record? The answer is probably yes, even if we don’t want to say it out loud. It can be scary and embarrassing to admit to a whole room full of important people that you have said something wrong. To do so, we have to put our ego to the side in favor of upholding our ethical standards.
The good news is, there are professional ways to correct the record and make sure we hold up one of those principle tenets of all our codes of ethics: Accuracy. We can make corrections and still instill professionalism and confidence with our clients, who will learn we have the integrity to speak up if necessary.
In this course, we’ll review what the Code of Ethics has to say on our ethical obligations of accuracy and reporting impediments to the court. Then, with hands-on exercises and drills, we will practice applying those standards. We will discuss the types of mistakes that might be made, and practice correcting errors as unobtrusively and objectively as possible. You will leave the class armed to keep your calm and make professional corrections in the courtroom.
