Interpreting Idioms with Virginia and Athena
Sun Dec 3

Sun, Dec 3, 2023 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM EST

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, but you shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth!

Idioms are so much a part of our speech that we don’t even realize when we’re using them. Interpreting them can be a challenge, though. One time, a judge said, “One in the hand is worth two of the bush” and then looked straight at Athena and said, “How will you interpret that?!” Before Athena had a chance to panic, her teammate saved the day, the expression just rolling off the tip of her tongue in Spanish. Thank goodness for boothmates!

Idioms are the topic of this month, and that’s why we are thrilled to be collaborating with Virginia Valencia of Interpretrain. Virginia is not only an expert interpreter; she is also a trained actress! In this workshop, we will draw from Virginia and Athena’s interpreting experience and theatre training, engaging in fun, hands on exercises and games that will allow us to think of creative solutions to the difficulty posed by strange turns of the tongue.

Get ready to be creative!  You will leave the workshop more confident and better able to reflect the true meaning of the utterances you’re asked to interpret.

As always, a recording will be available for anyone who can’t join us live.

Applications for continuing education are under way in multiple states. Please note that all sales are final.
